SPONSOR: The Ponaganset Education Foundation
PURPOSE: The First Class Scholarship is designed to provide financial and personal support for deserving and resilient Ponaganset public high school students attending 4-year colleges on a full-time basis. Scholarships of up to $16,000 ($4,000/year) are awarded based on demonstrated financial need, academic achievement and personal accomplishments. Funds awarded by PEF may be used for tuition, books, room and board, and incidental expenses in connection with the recipient’s college education. Scholarship recipients are matched with a personal mentor for four years.
CRITERIA: Selection for the First Class Scholarship is based on the following:
- Neither parent has graduated from a four year college/universityüSeniors accepted to and attending an accredited four year college/universityüSeniors attending Ponaganset High School for 3 or more yearsüGPA – cumulative of at least 2.5üDemonstrated financial needüAbility to overcome obstacles to achieve academic and personal goalsüQuality involvement with others through work, school, family or communityüCommitment to honor other requirements of the PEF
AMOUNT: $16,000 ($2,000 each semester over four years)
TIMELINE: May of each year
- Students complete an applicationüApplications are reviewed by a selection committeeüFinalists will be interviewedüRecipients honored at an awards ceremony
NON-PROFIT: Ponaganset Education Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit
corporation
